History -
This corps was formed 28 June 1899 with 6 companies (A-F). 26 May 1909, four companies were added (G-J). 7 May 1910, two companies were added. 27 May 1911 orders list M company as having appointments although, no evidence of M company being formed could be found. 8 Jun 1912 order 319 chnges the designation of 55 Toronto Public Schools Cadet Battalion to 1st Battalion Toronto Public Schools with 8 Coys (A-H). At the same time Corps 331-335 formed with designations of 2nd Battalion to 6th Battalion Toronto Public Schools. May 2, 1913 K Coy was formed. Sometime between Sep 1913 and 28 Jan 1914 the corps 331-335 became part of #55, keeping the same designations. Appointments made 1 Sep 1915 list a 7th Battalion. The 8th battalion was formed 18 Dec 1916. As of 25 Nov 1919 the following coys were formed, although there was no evidence that they had previously disbanded: 1Bn C and D Coy, 2 Bn F Coy, 5 Bn E Coy. As of the same date, the following Coys were formed 1 Bn I Coy, 3 Bn I Coy, 4 Bn I Coy, 6 Bn I Coy, and 7 Bn K Coy. 19 Jan 1921 K Coy of 1,4 and 8 Bn formed. 23 Nov 1921 K Coy of 1 Bn formed (although no evidence of it being disbanded was found.) 17 Nov 1921 3 Bn K Coy was formed. 15 Apr 1922 order 138 Reorganized #55 into two brigades each with five Battalions (1 Brigade had 1-5 Battalion and 2 Brigade had 6-10 Battalion.) Each Battalion had 11 Coys in them. On 9 Jan 1925 the following changed occurred: 1 Bde 2 Bn G Coy, 2 Bde 7 Bn B Coy were disbanded and reformed; 1 Bde 3 Bn H Coy and 2 Bde 5 Bn K Coy and 6 Bn C Coy were disbanded; and 1 Bde 1Bn H Coy, 2 Bn H Coy, 4 Bn H Coy, 5 Bn H Coy, 2 Bde 9 Bn G Coy were formed although no evidence of them being disbanded were found. 28 Jan 1925 the corps were again reorganized into 2 Brigades with 5 Battalions each, and 8 Coys in each Battalion. MO 189 of 1929 reorganized again into same structure as before. Again MO 37 1930 reorganized the corps. The designation of 9 Bn F Coy changed to 4 Bn D Coy in order 319 of 1935. The Coys were disbanded in three phases in the following manner:
9 Nov 1942:
1 Battalion: A,B,C,D,F,G and H Coys
2 Battalion: A,D,E and G Coys
3 Battalion: B,F,G and H Coys
4 Battalion: A,B,C,E,F and G Coys
5 Battalion: B,D,E,F,G and H Coys
all of 6 Battalion
7 Battalion: A,B,C,D,F,G and H Coys
8 Battalion: A,B,C,D,E,F and G Coys
the rest of 9 Battalion
10 Battalion: C, D,E,F,G and H Coys.
Note: 2 Battalion C Coy was disbanded but it was listed as Adam Beck School which is incorrect. The name should have read Frankland

This left 3 Battalion A and D Coys remaining, however this seems to be an oversight as they should have been disbanded. These Coys were not the only Coys with their names (ie Lindsey and Frankland). Many new corps were formed 20 Dec 1945 with the same designations as the Coys of 55. These included:

This corps was quite possibly the largest cadet corps ever, with as many as 4000 cadets enrolled at its peak. Further research is needed.
