The following are an architectural essay on Camp Vernon. Vernon ACSTC is the last H-Hut camp left in the country of this size. At one time there were probably somewhere around 100 such camps from Vancouver Island to Nova Scotia all with the same efficient H-Hut style style barracks and mess halls. Vernon's lower camp with some 40 buildings was built in all of 6 weeks in the summer of 1941, a truly remarkable achievement.

The Kiska Gun, Aug 21, 2004. The Kiska Gun has been part of the camp since WWII, it was captured on the shores of Kiska Island in August 1943 during the invasion of the island. The Japanese unbeknownst to the Allies had evacuated the island just a few days before the invasion. Still, booby traps and land mines killed 4 Canadian soldiers, to which the gun is now dedicated as of Aug 2003 during the camps annual Drumhead service. (Phil Edge)
