6000 British regulars and colonial militia land south of Ft. Carillon (on Lake Champlain). The 2300 French regulars and 800 Canadian militia opposing them fight a delaying action before abandoning the fort.
22 July 1943German troops defending Assoro, in central Sicily, withdraw from the town after being out-flanked by Canadians of the Hastings and Prince Edward Regiment.

A suicide bomber blew himself up in Kandahar, killing two Canadian soldiers and wounding eight more; the slain soldiers were Cpl. Francisco Gomez, an anti-armour specialist from the Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry in Edmonton, who was driving the Bison armoured vehicle targeted by the bomber’s vehicle, and Cpl. Jason Patrick Warren of the Black Watch in Montreal.
