19 July 1629
Three English privateers, operating under a letter of marque awarded to Gervas Kirke, anchor off Quebec. The town's garrison of 16 soldiers, under the command of Samuel de Champlain, are caught by surprise and forced to surrender.
19 July 1775An attempt is made to organize an English militia at Quebec. Despite the threat of American invasion, only 70 men turn out to defend the capital.
