Canadian troops attack the German defences on the high ground of Hill 70, just north of Lens, and reach all of their objectives in less than four hours.
15 August 1943
American and Canadian troops land at Kiska, in Alaska's Aleutian chain, only to find that the Japanese garrison has abandoned the island. 4 Canadian soldiers are killed by mines and booby traps.15 August 1945
The Canadian Army Pacific Force was disbanded after the destruction of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, in early August by atomic bombs, and Japan's subsequent surrender. The bulk of the force had assembled at Vernon, BC to train.
15 August 1950
HMCS Cayuga and HMS Mounts Bay anchor off the Korean port of Yosu and begin shelling the dockyard facilities of the Communist base. On the same day the 2nd Bn PPCLI was formed.
