Life at camp is pretty interesting, and with such a remarkable mix of people, humour has a way of occurring in the oddest of ways. Sometimes it's a simple as a platoon matching down the road and creating a chant that they will use all summer, other times a harmless prank carefully crafted at the end of summer in which everyone gets a good laugh and no one is hurt. And then... there is this. The Gummy Bear parade. During the entire summer, a gummy bear parade existed on a desk in the Guard Coy office, each day "Guard Coy" was formed up on the desk performing a variety of training and duties, mimicking the actual Guard coy that day.  (VACSTC, Wayne Emde)

Nothing short of brilliant. Any idea what Guard Coy is doing here?  (VACSTC, Wayne Emde)

Besides having a great sense of humour, other individuals also have musical skills and talent. Padre Jack Greenhalgh is an accomplished banjo player of a high magnitude. A get together in the evening at the MIR with some of the equally talented staff members was great way to wind down the week. Only a few days to go. (VACSTC, Wayne Emde)

The Doctor joins in with his harmonica and trumpet...  (VACSTC, Wayne Emde)

  (VACSTC, Wayne Emde)

And finally a fiddle... the camp like every other camp, has so many remarkable and interesting people, people that contribute positively for the benefit of the cadets and staff alike. In years previous, Padre Greenhalgh has played his banjo in the officers mess with the accompaniment of the piano played by talented individuals like Maj Dan Davies, much to the enjoyment of fellow staff. There are many fond memories of the music and occasions.   (VACSTC, Wayne Emde)

This day in Canadian Military History...

13 August 1756
French troops occupy Ft. Ontario (near Oswego, N.Y.) and prepare an assault on the larger stronghold of Ft. George. The death of the British commander, Colonel Mercer, in the barrage saps the English garrison's already low morale.

13 August 1814

British artillery batteries open fire on the Americans occupying Ft. Erie. The barrage is expected to soften resistance in anticipation of a British assault three days from now.
