Company Sergeant Major appointments.
Not to be taken lightly, it takes a great deal of time to chose the staff cadets who are to become CSMs for the companies at VACSTC. The selection process starts with an evaluation of their performance the previous summer, and only fourteen cadets are chosen for the selection process. Over several days, these staff cadets are graded and interviewed and after much thought and discussion, are assigned to their respective companies. They are of course, the senior cadets of their peer group having taken many courses and often having served as staff cadets in previous years. The position of CSM carries great responsibility. Course cadets and staff cadets alike look to them for leadership. Much is expected of them. The ceremonial handing of the pace sticks from the Commanding Officer begins their long busy summer as CSMs.
