The Marquis de Montcalm and his force of 6000 men and artillery (French regulars, Canadian militia and native allies) prepare to lay siege to Ft. William Henry at the south end of Lake George.

2 August 1918
U-156, a converted German mercantile submarine, attacks the schooner Donrfontein in the Bay of Fundy.

2 August 1944
Canadian troops continue to press the Germans south of Caen. The enemy is still offering a good resistance around the town of Tilly-la-Campagne and repeated Canadian attacks are driven off under heavy fire.
