3 July 1898
The Desert Railway, stretching 385 miles from Wadi Halfa to Atbara in the Sudan is completed this day. The project is an engineering triumph for Lt. Percy Girouard, a Canadian-born Royal Engineer.
3 July 1951
The Royal Canadian Air Force's first female recruits report to the Manning Depot at St. Jean, Quebec, where they will become specialists in essential ground services, such as air traffic control and armaments.
