This day in Canadian Military History...

29 July 1916
Twenty members of the 29th Battalion, recruits from Vancouver, raid the German trenches opposite St. Eloi, looking for evidence of tunneling shafts and gas cylinders. The cylinders are found and 50 Germans are either killed or wounded, for only light Canadian casualties.



29 July 1982
A Canadian CF-104 Starfighter collides in mid-air with a civilian aircraft near Baden, Germany. The pilot of the fighter manages to eject from his jet successfully, but three civilians are killed in the mishap.
