The newly arrived second intake of 3-week Basic Band cadets receive the CHAP lecture from 2Lt Heather Garecki.

14 Platoon attempts the trust circle. The trust circle requires a group of individuals to sit down as a team on the person's knees immediately behind them.

Cdt Bobby Buteau 2772 Royal 22nd Regiment RC(Army)CC Valcartier, QC, is one of six cadets attending course in VACSTC from Quebec. Cdt Buteau attending Vernon for the first time and in the cadet world is rather well traveled. Having joined cadets four years ago, he spent his first summer at Argonaut, NB, and his second at Valcartier, Quebec and would like to take part in an international expedition next year. Cdt Buteau - "Vernon is beautiful, there is scenery and mountains and stuff, I would like to come back as a staff cadet."

C/CSM Sandra Procyk is Foxtrot Comapny's Sergeant Major and in final year as a cadet. A member of 2988 Service Battalion RC(Army)CC Montmarte, SK since 1998, she has spent five of the past six summers at Vernon, in 2003 She attending the overseas exchange to Sweden. When asked why she does what she does, she responded "I had a goal of becoming a CSM, now that I'm here I get to see the cadets on grad parade, on the last Basic Marksman parade, they did great." On the biggest change in her life - "I used to be the shyest girl and now I'm just my own person. Cadets has allowed me to come out of my shell." Next in her life, she plans on attending university and taking sports medicine, later she plans on pursuing an education degree and eventually becoming a teacher.

 

It's late night and after lights out looking down Sangro Avenue. The camp is quiet, the cadets are asleep resting for tomorrow's sports day.

This day in Canadian Military History...

31 July 1759
General James Wolfe lands a large force at Montmorency, on the French left at Quebec, defended by entrenched French regulars and Canadian militia. As a rain storm breaks out, Wolfe orders a retreat, having lost 400 men in the battle.




31 July 1783
Members of the King's Royal Regiment of New York arrive at Cataraqui (Kingston, Ont.) as the American War of Independence is now over. The arrival of these troops, soon to be joined by family members, marks the beginning of Loyalist settlement in Canada.
