0715 hrs, the Quarter Guard goes through a full practice before breakfast and the arrival of the reviewing officer for the first intake 3 week basic band and marksmen course. Cdt Alaina Stefanson 2890 Loyal Edmonton Regiment RC(Army)CC, Slave Lake, AB, is one of the two sentries this morning.

 

Chief Superintendent Ménard, the Reviewing Officer for the 3 Week Basic Band and Marksman Graduation Parade inspects Cadet Dean Lynam of 1789 Engineers RC(Army)CC, Agassiz, BC, a member of the Quarter Guard.



Cdt Blythe Heywood of 3063 Rocky Mountain Rangers RC(Army)CC Enderby, BC, is inspected by the 3 week Basic band and marksman graduation parade reviewing officer, Chief Superintendent Ménard, Commanding Officer of “Depot” Division, Royal Canadian Mounted Police. Cadet Heywood was part of the Senior Band performing for the graduation.


Top Cadet in the Basic Army Cadet Marksman course, Cdt Rebekah Mccutcheon from 3005 Service Battalion RC(Army)CC, Victoria, BC, is presented with her award by the reviewing officer.



Top Cadet in the Basic Army Cadet Military Band is Cdt Karl Ho from 2472 15th Field Royal Canadian Artillery RC(Army)CC, Vancouver, BC.


Top Cadet in Basic Army Cadet Pipes and Drums is Cdt Queenie Lai from 2893 Seaforth Highlanders of Canada RC(Army)CC, Port Coquitlam, BC.

Basic Band and Basic Marksman march past the Reviewing Officer. Next year many of these cadets will return for the CL Band course or 6 week marksman course. Ultimately several of the marksman course cadets may be good enough to compete at the national course in Connaught, Ontario and a few perhaps may compete at Bisley, England, the ultimate rifle marksman competition.

 

 

C/CSM Heather Jewer presents the reviewing officer with a gift of appreciation from VACSTC.

 

The Senior Training Advisor MWO Davis, discusses with C/CSM Pamela Taylor, C/CSM Stephanie Therrien and C/CSM Dane Nicholson parade positions for the companies.

This day in Canadian Military History...

29 July 1916
Twenty members of the 29th Battalion, recruits from Vancouver, raid the German trenches opposite St. Eloi, looking for evidence of tunneling shafts and gas cylinders. The cylinders are found and 50 Germans are either killed or wounded, for only light Canadian casualties.



29 July 1982
A Canadian CF-104 Starfighter collides in mid-air with a civilian aircraft near Baden, Germany. The pilot of the fighter manages to eject from his jet successfully, but three civilians are killed in the mishap.
