Air rifle range 1 is a busy place all summer, cadets from 23 Platoon, Foxtrot Company are on their qualification shoot this morning.

Cadets Blythe Heywood 3063 Rocky Mountain Rangers RC(Army)CC, Enderby, BC; on French horn and Angela Walsh 2979 Electrical Mechanical Engineers RC(Army)CC High Level, AB; on Clarinet practice during a military band class at H10. By summer's end the band will have performed for tens of thousands of people throughout the Okanagan Valley impressing them with their remarkable musical talent.

 

Sometime a listening ear is the best thing, at Bennett's Ranch, 2Lt Doug Marietta listens to cadet who's a little homesick.

 

Captain Jamie Biggar calls bingo for cadets in the cadet canteen after training hours. 

 

After training hours, various sports and activities are available for cadets, portable basketball nets are set up on Sicily Square. Cadets from Alpha Company's 1 Platoon are playing a pickup game under the supervision of C/WO Madden and C/WO Bohrn.

This day in Canadian Military History...

19 July 1629

Three English privateers, operating under a letter of marque awarded to Gervas Kirke, anchor off Quebec. The town's garrison of 16 soldiers, under the command of Samuel de Champlain, are caught by surprise and forced to surrender.



19 July 1775

An attempt is made to organize an English militia at Quebec. Despite the threat of American invasion, only 70 men turn out to defend the capital.
