Cdt Aaron Hicks 2887 Rocky Mountain Rangers RC(Army)CC, 100 Mile House, BC, from Bravo Company plays the Centennial bugle as the flag is raised by duty staff cadets C/WO Joleen Giesbrect from Echo Company and C/Sgt Jamie Greer from Bravo Company while the Battalion Orderly Officer Lt (N) John Hungar salutes. This is but one of the daily rituals of the camp. C/WO Giesbrect is at Vernon for her third summer after spending the summer of 2004 on the Finland overseas exchange, when asked about being a staff cadet she stated, "I'm a better leader now and I've accomplished a lot. I'd like to pass on to the cadets the good stories about being a staff cadet, the leadership qualities."

Cdt Aarron Hicks holds the "Centennial Bugle, this bugle was donated to the camp in 2002. It is believed to date from the Boer War and was used during WWI, then issued to #765 Copper Cliff Highlanders Cadet Corp in Copper Cliff Ontario around 1919. When the cadet corps closed in 1993, the bugle somehow found its way to the USA where it was purchased at auction. It now is part of the culture of VACSTC.

This day in Canadian Military History...

13 July 1687
A French army of 2500 regulars and Canadian militia, accompanied by native allies, engage a large Seneca force. They leave on the field 27 of their warriors; the French lose 11 men. Pursuit is not an option for the victors, as summer heat and a long march have exhausted the troops.

13 July 1916
Canadian troops are employed at the front around Armagh and Sanctuary Woods, reinforcing the trench lines and bringing supplies and ammunition forward.
