Guard Company flies their well earned pennant for week 5.

The staff cadet mess dinner is an annual event that they all look forward to. It grew out of a need in the early 1980s to have a battalion wide social gathering for staff cadets at camp's end. Until that time only semi-formal company dinners were the norm.

The staff cadets dress in their best attire, the girls in formal gowns.

The boys in their full dress uniforms.

For some, it's one of the last formal affairs in cadets.

Photos are taken that will remind each and every one of them of the friendships made here.

Smile!

The promenade through the camp with the pipes & drums only further underscores the pomp and ceremony that is the staff cadet mess dinner.

The DCO, Maj Al Dengis is one of the guests at tonight's function.

The formal photo is taken in front of the Justice court building, a traditional location for photos for the both the military camp and locals high schools going back nearly a century.

Col Doug Walton OMM CD, the Honourary LCol of the British Columbia Dragoons and the guest speaker of tonight's staff cadet mess dinner addresses the audience as the head table looks on.

Simultaneously, the cadet video dance is taking place in F20 at the top of the hill.

It to is a big event on the calendar for course cadets. The dances have been held at this massive multi purpose building for 25 years.

After weeks of Saturday night competitions, the finals came down to three cadets in the Camp Idol, all three took their turn at the microphone in the middle of the cadet dance. Cdt Kristin Leclair is completely surprised upon hearing the announcement that she has won.

On stage with CI Andrea Williams, she is congratulated by the battalion.

It's loud...

This day in Canadian Military History...

13 August 1756
French troops occupy Ft. Ontario (near Oswego, N.Y.) and prepare an assault on the larger stronghold of Ft. George. The death of the British commander, Colonel Mercer, in the barrage saps the English garrison's already low morale.

13 August 1814

British artillery batteries open fire on the Americans occupying Ft. Erie. The barrage is expected to soften resistance in anticipation of a British assault three days from now.
