The Pioneer bivouac site at Harris Creek. The Pioneer cadets are on an eleven day exercise putting into action all that they have been taught over the summer.
One of the projects is a 145' three-rope bridge assembled over the creek. Supervised by Capt Dale Chadsey, platoon commander Lt Carolyn Baker, WO John Marcionni and Sgt Kim Arnold, it was built in just eight hours by the 23 cadets in the platoon, it uses nearly 900' of rope along with spars cut out of the forest that became an A-Frame support as well as block and tackle. A typical regular force Pioneer Platoon of days gone by would have constructed the same bridge in 4 hours, however they would be highly experienced, older and stronger. Sgt Kim Arnold - "This is a very impressive job. There was a lot of concurrent activity... it's all about leadership and teamwork, and these cadets have it."
