The Army Cadet League of Canada (ACLC) has created an award to recognize continuous meritorious cadet service of at least five years
by deserving Army Cadets. The effective date of this award shall be 1 Jan 2004 in celebration of the 125 the year of the Royal Canadian Army
Cadets (RCAC).
AUTHORITY
2. The award (ACSM) was authorized for issue and wear by the National Cadet Council
(NCC) 05 May 04.
3. The authority for the ACSM shall be The Army Cadet League of Canada. The medal will be recommended for issue by the Cadet Corps Commanding Officer and approved by the
Chairperson of the Corps Sponsoring Committee or the Corps Sponsor where a Sponsoring Committee does not exist.
ELIGIBILITY
4. The onus shall be on the individual cadet to apply for this award on form “Application for the Army Cadet Service Medal” (attached).
5. To qualify for this award, the cadet must have successfully completed five years of honourable service with no serious infractions,
and be recommended by the Cadet Corps Commanding Officer.
6. All Army Cadets past or future shall be eligible for this award. Cadets on strength at a cadet corps as at 01 Jan 04 shall be eligible to receive
the medal and subsequent additional service bars, free of charge as a one-time issue. Former cadets who were non-effective (N/E) or Struck
off Strength (SOS) on or before 31 Dec 03 may apply to their former Cadet Corps for this award, but will be required to offset the cost of
the medal as determined by the ACLC from time to time ($10.00 – eff. Jan 2004). Where a former cadet was enrolled in a Cadet Corps that
no longer exists, the former cadet may apply to a Commanding Officer of an associated corps that may have knowledge of that previous cadet
corps and who will accept the supporting evidence of service produced by the applicant.
7. Replacement medals may be issued to an individual, at cost, after proof of original issue is produced and an application re-submitted to
the National Office. No replacement medal shall be issued without supporting proof of original issue, the onus to produce such proof
being upon the applicant.
8. A break in service in the aggregate of one month or less will not disqualify a recipient from receiving the award. Only service with
the RCAC shall qualify for eligibility, but such eligible service may be portable between army cadet corps.
The medal design is as follows:
Round gold coloured medal, 35mm in diameter.
Obverse side: Badge of the RCAC., above badge the words "SERVICE – CADETS", below the badge the words "CANADA" On the reverse of the medal a rectangular blank
where the recipient’s name and corps may be engraved
The ribbon border striping is the primary colours of The Army Cadet League of Canada (red/gold) with a green central stripe depicting
Canadian youth.
10. Additional years of service shall be marked by the award of a bar to the medal, with a flat
burnished maple leaf, in gold color, centered. Each additional year is marked by an additional
bar. On the undress ribbon, additional years of service shall be marked by the nickel maple leaf, one for each additional year of service.
11. The Medal with ribbons and bars, loose or court mounted, may be worn in accordance
with military protocol over the left pocket on all ceremonial occasions. When in undress
uniform, the ribbon shall be worn over and above the edge of the left breast pocket. The
Army Cadet Service Medal will be worn at the extreme left of all decorations and medals of
the Cadet system, all in accordance with existing dress regulations of the Canadian Cadet Organization and, if/where permitted, of the Canadian Honours System.
