2009 recipient of the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) Citation

The Army Cadet League of Canada (ACLC) is pleased to announce that Mr. Gilles Déry, former National President of the ACLC, is the 2009 recipient of the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) Citation. The CDS, General Walter Natynczek CMM, MSC, CD personally presented Mr. Déry with the honour on April 1, 2009.
The Chief of Defence Staff Citation is presented annually to an ACLC League Member in appreciation of the meritorious manner in which they, as a member of the Army Cadet League of Canada, fostered interest in the Canadian Cadet organizations though service to the Royal Canadian Army Cadets.
Mr. Déry has been part of the Royal Canadian Army Cadets and ACLC for the last 15 years, first at the local cadet corps level, then as a Provincial League President in Québec and has served as the National President for an unprecedented eight years. He has been instrumental in restructuring and streamlining the organization of the Army Cadet League of Canada and implementing improved recognition and awards for the 20,000 Army Cadets and 6,000 civilian volunteers and League members that work behind the scene all across Canada. All of his seven children are or were involved in the Army Cadet Program in Chicoutimi, QC.

Mr. Déry also manages several different business enterprises, teaches finance at l’Université du Québec à Chicoutimi and is the director of 10 companies involved in the fields of agriculture and environment in Québec and New-Brunswick. He is also a member of his local school board and several other municipal organizations and President of the University of Québec at Chicoutimi Centre for Entrepreneurship, a non-profit organization sponsored by the federal government to promote and support business ventures and innovative ideas.
