History -
This Corps was formed 1 Sep 1959 and designated Camp Petawawa Cadet Corps. affil.: High School Camp Petawawa, Sept 1, 1959. On 15 May 1964 it was redesignated The Canadian Guards Cadet Corps and on 6 Oct 1970 it became known as Canadian Forces Base Petawawa Cadet Corps. Effective 7 Sep 1979 change of affiliation and sponsor to The Canadian Airborne Regiment. Effective 21 Aug 1979 change of sponsor to Branch 517, Royal Canadian Legion, Petawawa. Letter (1085-11-4 SSO Cdts) dated 21 Aug 1980 states due to lack of cadets and no 1980 annual inspection, Corps to be placed on probation until 1981 annual inspection. Effective 28 Jan 1981 change of designation to Airborne Cadet Corps. Letter 1085-11-4 (DCOS Ops) dated 22 Apr 1981 removed Corps from probation. Eff 26 Mar 1996 affiliation changed to 3 RCR Petawawa and designation changed to 2642 The Royal Cdn Regt (Petawawa) Cadet Corps (D Cdts Adm 216). VCDS Cadet Stats give the affiliated unit as nil.
