History -
Fort Garry Horse Cadet Corps, Winnipeg, Manitoba was formed 18 Jun 1925 under the sponsorship of the Fort Garry Horse. On 31 Jan 1939 the Corps redesignated 'A' Sqn, Fort Garry Horse Cadet Corps. On 18 Apr 1942 an application to form Cadet Corps No. 1226 'B' Sqn, Fort Garry Horse - sponsored by No. 1226 'A' Sqn FGH was raised; application to be held in abeyance till Sep 1942 - however, according to records nothing further is to be found concerning this. May 1943 - in view of the fact that the Fort Garry Horse is now designated the 15th (R) Reconnaissance Regt, 2nd Armoured Car Regt (CAC) the Cadet Corps was automatically affiliated with the redesignated unit. redisig: 10th Armoured (Fort Garry Horse) Cadet Corps, Jun 4, 1947. In 1947 they became known as No. 1226, 10th Armoured Regt (FGH) Cadet Corps. In Apr 1949 they were redesignated as 1226 'A' Sqn FGH Cadet Corps. In Dec 58 they redesignated as 2nd FGH CC. In Apr 62 they adopted their present title and became affiliated with FGH Militia. Effective 4 May 79 the Corps assumed co-sponsor with Fort Garry Horse and General Sir Sam Steel Branch 117, Royal Canadian Legion. H.Q. 12-F-26
History of the 1226 Fort Garry Horse Cadet Corps
The 1226 Fort Garry Horse Cadet Corps from Winnipeg, Manitoba was formed 18 June 1925 under the sponsorship of the Fort Garry Horse. On 31 January 1939, the corps was redesignated No. 1226 "A" Sqn, Fort Garry Horse Cadet Corps. On 18 April 1942 an application to form No. 1226 "B" Sqn, Fort Garry Horse Cadet Corps (to be sponsored by No.1226 FGHCC) was raised and
the application held in abeyance until September 1942. No records indicate if this was ever actioned. In May 1943, in view of the fact that the Fort Garry Horse was now designated the 15th Reconnaissance Regt., 2nd Armoured Car Regt. (CAC), the cadet corps was automatically affiliated with the new unit. In 1947 they became known as No. 1226, 10th Armoured Regt. (FGH) Cadet Corps. In April 1949 we were designated No. 1226 "A" Sqn, Fort Garry Horse Cadet Corps once again. In December 1958 the title changed to No. 1226, 2nd FGHCC and we were affiliated with the FGH 10th Armoured Regt. In April 1962 the corps adapted its present title and was once again affiliated with the FGH Militia.
Effective 4 May 1979 the corps assumed co-sponsorship with the Fort Garry Horse and General Sir Sam Steele Branch 117, Royal Canadian Legion. This arrangement remains in place today.
