History -

In 1956 under the sponsorship of 6th Fd Sqn RCE CA (M) formation unit became known as 2573 6th Field Squadron RCE Cadet Corps. affil.: 7th Field Engineer Regt RCE, Jan 25, 1956. They are sponsored by the Royal Canadian Legion - Branch 118, North Vancouver. (auth?)

"Captain Derrick Humphreys (Former Mayor of West Vancouver ) was asked to start an Engineer Cadet Corps by Major Bill Dow, the Commanding Officer of 6th Field Engineer Squadron. It was initially affiliated with the 7th Field Regiment Royal Canadian Engineers (RCE) in Vancouver, the parent regiment of 6th Field. The corps was registered as 6th Field Squadron Royal Canadian Engineers Cadet Corps on 25 January 1956 and was given the corps number 2573. When #2570 North Shore Cadet Corps disbanded, the remaining cadets were absorbed by #2573.

During the late 1960s and into the 1970s, the popularity of the cadet programme experienced a down turn and the entire programme was re-evaluated at the National level with a view to making some changes. With a new mandate, major changes to the training programme and new cadet uniforms in 1977, enrolment was once again on the increase. During this time, the corps re-badged and changed its name from 6th Field Squadron RCE Cadets Corps to the 6th Field Engineer Squadron Cadet Corps (the name still used today). These changes were brought about following the affiliated unit’s Branch changing from the Royal Canadian Engineers to the Canadian Military Engineers.

In the near future, the name of the corps will once again change as the affiliated unit’s name changes. The word “Field” is soon to be eliminated. The corps will be known as 6th Engineer Squadron Cadet Corps."  - Capt Bob Irvine Dec 2005

These 12 photos were taken in June 1956, about three months after the formation of the Corps, during a weekend field exercise.  The exercise was held somewhere out towards Mission, BC with the assistance of members of 6 Fd Sqn. These are probably the first ever photos taken of the corps
