History -
This corps has roots in No. 189 Red Deer Cadet Company which was originally formed 14 Aug 1908. It then became disbanded 28 Dec 1912, and No.189 was reallocated to a corps in Montreal, Quebec. This Corps was formed 2 Nov 1928 as 1390 Red Deer High School Cadet Corps, and was disbanded 19 Jan 1938. Red Deer High School Cadet Corps
The Corps reformed 13 Nov 1940 with the same name, and in 1941, became affiliated with the 2/78th Field Battery RCA, and so added the units name to the corps name. Effective 1 Sep 47 the Corps redesignated as 1390 Red Deer RCA Cadet Corps. affil.: 78th Anti-Tank Battery (SP) RCA, Sept 1, 1947. It was affiliated with the 78th Medium Battery in 1955. The corps was sponsored by and affiliated with 20th Fd Arty, 78th Fd Bty RCA (M) in 1965. The corps was placed on probation in 1970, and it was lifted in 1971. In the 1977 the Corps was again placed on probation until 31 Dec 77. Letter 1085-15 (SSO Cdts) dated 30 Jan 78 extended probation until 31 Jun 78. Effective 1 Jun 78 change of sponsor to Branch 35, Royal Canadian Legion, Red Deer. Effective 3 Feb 1993 CFB Calgary is the new Support Base.
