History
This Corps was originally formed as the #117 Macdonald Grey Cadet Corps, Middleton on 1 August 1904. The Corps disbanded 12 May 1930. The Corps reformed as #117 Middleton School Cadet Corps, Middleton. The Corps disbanded 7 Mar 1950. The Corps reformed as #117 Preston/ Westphal Area Army Cadet Corps on 15 Jan 1996 in North Preston.

On January 15, 1996 the Preston/Westphal Royal Canadian Army Cadet Corps officially became a recognized Army Cadet Corps by NDHQ. This date is also Martin Luther King’s birthday. The number 117 was first allocated to an Army Cadet Corps in Middleton NS in 1904 which disbanded in1930, was reformed in 1941 and disbanded again in 1950. Because1996 marked the 117th Anniversary of the Royal Canadian Army Cadets and this being the first request for formation of a cadet corps, this year (1996), it was appropriated to allocate this number (117) to the Preston/Westphal Corps. The name Preston/Westphal was given to the Corps by the first Commanding Officer, Captain Mark Johnson, CD. The Corps is sponsored by the IODE, Annie V. Johnson Chapter, from North Preston NS and co-sponsored by the Royal Canadian Legion, #160- Centennial branch, and # 31 Somme branch, Dartmouth NS. 117 RCACC is affiliated with the PLF (Princess Louise Fusiliers based in Halifax, Armouries, and is authorized by the Commanding Officer PLF to wear their cap badge and shoulder flashes. Currently the strength of the Corps is 63 cadets, boys and girls, three officers, one senior nco, CWO, and three civilian instructors. The 117 Preston/Westphal RCACC will be celebrating their 10th Anniversary 0n June 4, 2006.
