History -

This cadet corps has the distinction of being the only known unnumbered corps, it appears that through miscommunication, this unit although "6th" Field Company was never given a corps number, perhaps it was believed in Ottawa and assumed in North Vancouver that the number 6 was the corps number. However there was at the time #6 cadet corps in Three Rivers, QC (Trois Rivieres) from Jan 16, 1880 to April 17, 1950. One can only assume that the mistake if ever noticed was simply ignored.

On 15 July 1921, the 6th Field Company Canadian Engineers of North Vancouver was authorized to re-establish, having been briefly disbanded following World War I. Major MacLean, the Commanding Officer of the 6th Field Company CE, enlisted the help of Mr. Ebenezer (Eb) Crute, a North Vancouver schoolteacher and PPCLI veteran of WW I, to form an army cadet corps. In 1924, the “6th Company Canadian Engineers Cadets” was established. It was one of 13 Army Cadet Corps in Militia District 11 (BC).
Between 1924 and 1930, the corps had from 20 to 40 cadets at any one time. The Corps was made up of boys aged 12-18, with some of the older cadets being members of the militia unit as well as holding senior leadership positions in the cadet corps. Under the leadership of Lieutenant/Instructor E. Crute, the young men trained in drill, use of rifles and other military subjects after school on Tuesday afternoons and Saturday mornings. According to an ex-cadet, the late George Scolles, the highlight of the year was to go to Rice Lake in North Vancouver and fire the .303 Lee Enfield rifle with half-charge cartridges.
