CADET INSPECTION THURSDAY

 

Members of No. 318 Woodstock High School Cadet Corps willhold their annual inspection this Thursday afternoon, May 11, in the Armoury on Chapel Street .  The inspection will get underway at 3 p.m.

 

The Cadets will be inspected by Major G.A. Whitlock, CD, Commanding Officer, 89th Field Artillery Batter, RCA (M).  Other guests at the inspection will be Mayor Hugh M. Tait, L. Ross Glenn, principal of Woodstock Schools , Corporal K. Ziegler and Constable J. Wickie of the RCMP and members of the Woodstock School Board.

 

Following the inspection, the Cadets will march past in line and column of route.  Highlight of the afternoon will be demonstrations by the Cadets as they display their ability in various phases of Cadet work.

 

Demonstrations will be given in rifle, casualty handling and map using.  The Cadet Band will also be in attendance for the parade.

 

Eight members of the Corps will be presented badges signifying their participation in the Dominion of Canada small bore rifle competition for 1961.  The members were in competition with similar teams across Canada and the average score made by the Woodstock teams was approximately 84 %.

 

The following will receive the award badges:  Highest scorer in unit, Cadet Richard Hayden; first class shot, Cadet Major Wayne McLaughlin; second class shot, Cadet CSM Brian Kennedy, Cadet Sgt. Clarence McCloskey, Cadets Vernon Flewelling and Alex Finnie.

 

The Cadet Corps is under the supervision of Chief Instructor Lt. J.D. Loukes, assisted by Lt. D.A.N. Leeming, Lt. B.L. Bragdon and S/Sgt. G.S. Sproule.

 

In the Flag Party at Thursdays inspection will be Cadet Lt. R. Coppolla, Cadet Sgt. C.McCloskey and Cadet Sgt. J. Andow.  Officer Commanding the Cadet Corps is Cadet Major W. McLaughlin.

 

Second in Command is Cadet Capt. G. Schriver with Platoon Commanders being Cadet Lt. K. Wright and Cadet Lt. R. Faulkner.  Sergeant Major is Cadet CSM C. Vandine;, CQMS, Cadet S/Sgt. B. Kennedy; Platoon Sergeants, Cadet Sgt. R. Burhoe and Cadet Sgt. K. Green.

 

The inspection and demonstrations are open to the public and all interested are invited to attend.

CADET CORPS HOLDS ANNUAL INSPECTION

 

The annual inspection of the Woodstock High School Cadet Corps was held last Thursday afternoon in the Woodstock Armouries.  The inspection was carried out by Major G.A. Whitlock, CD, Officer Commanding, 89th Field Artillery Batter, RCA (M).

 

Following the arrival of the inspecting Officer the Cadets gave a General Salute after which the Corps was inspected.

 

The Cadets then Marched past in line and column of route and advanced in review order, with Major Whitlock taking the salute.

 

Several parents and interested spectators were on hand for the inspection which was judged by a team from Provincial headquarters in Fredericton .

 

Also present were members of the Woodstock School Board, the local detachment of the RCMP and town Police force.

 

Demonstrations were given by the Cadet Band under Cadet Lt. Robert Faulkner; rifle, under Cadet Capt. G. Schriver; casualty handling, and map using.

 

Eight members of the Corps were presented awards which they won in the Dominion of Canada small bore rifle competition held recently.  Those receiving awards were Cadet Major Wayne McLaughlin, Cadet CSM Brian Kennedy, Cadet Sgt. Clarence McCloskey and Cadets Richard Hayden, Vernon Flewelling and Alex Finnie.  The awards were presented by Major Whitlock.

 

In a brief address, Major Whitlock Commended the Cadets on the good turnout and smart appearance.  He said that he thought the marching was very good and the demonstrations excellent.  “The spirit of the Corps is very high,” he said.

 

In concluding his remarks, Major Whitlock said that citizens and parents cout well be proud of the Cadet Corps.  “I congratulate you on a job well done.”
