LOCAL BOY TO ATTEND CADET CAMP

Word has been received from the Area Cadet Officer at headquarters in Fredericton that Cadet Captain LeRoy Dykeman of Charles St. , Woodstock has been selected as one of six from New Brunswick to attend the National Cadet Camp at Banff , Alberta this summer.  Eighteen cadets from Eastern Command make up the Canadian total of 235 to attend the camp.

The National Cadet Camp is strictly an award camp for those cadets who have proved to be outstanding during their cadet training.  Selection to attend the camp is the highest award for an Army Cadet.

Cadet Captain Dykeman has been a member of 318 Woodstock Cadet Corps for three years, and has commanded the Corps for two years.  In February of this year, he was on of three members of the corps to pass examinations for Master Cadet.  His school work has been above average, and he has contributed well to the extra curricular activites of the school.  He is very popular with staff and student body alike.

The Eastern Command Cadets will assemble at Camp Aldershot , N.S. for two weeks prior to leaving for Banff .  During this time, they will undergo special training and be outfitted for the camp.  At Banff , a three-phase program is carried out.  These are military training of a special nature; a bivouac in the mountains above Banff ; and partaking of special tours of places of interest and beauty in the vicinity.  Each phase lasts one week.
