ARMY CADET SCHOLARSHIP

Two of Canada ’s best Royal Canadian Army Cadets will be given scholarships of $600 each next year on entry into either of the Canadian Services Colleges, it was announced by Eastern Command Headquarters at Halifax .

A new departure, the scholarships have been set up by the Canadian Infantry Association as an encouragement to the youths who might otherwise be unable to follow a military career as an officer.  The awards will be made each year.

Competition is bound to be keen, army officers noted, with certain conditions governing the applications.

The youth must have served two years in a cadet corps affiliated with an infantry unti.  He must be recommended by the officer commanding that unit and also by the cadet training officer for the area in which he lives.  Consideration will be given to scholastic standing, qualities of leadership and character and activities as a cadet.  Final selection will be made by a committee of the infantry association along with the services colleges.

Award of the money will enable the young man to pay for his first year at either Royal Military College, Kingston, Ont., or at Royal Roads, Victoria, B.C. where all three services study to become officers.

Application for these scholarships must be submitted with application for entrance to either of the colleges by April 30 of the year entry is desired.

Application forms may be obtained from the chief instructors of the cadet unites, army command cadet officers or cadet training officers of the area concerned.  Boys can also get fuller information of the scholarships by writing to the honorary secretary of the Canadian Infantry Association at 45A Main Street , Hull , P.Q.
