HIGH SCHOOL CADETS ARE REVIEWED AT ANNUAL INSPECTION

A reorganization of cadet services will go into effect on March 31, Lieutenant Crooks of Fredericton , assistant district cadet officer, told the Woodstock High School Cadet Corps at their annual inspection at the armouries here last Friday.  Junior cadets, he said, would be eliminated which would involve a reduction in New Brunswick from a present strength of 3,500 to about 1,000.

The inspection, which is usually held in June, has been advanced to that the present cadet year will conform with the government fiscal year.  It was divided into two parts, the first section comprising company and platoon drills were carried out under the command of Creighton Seely, with T. Simms, A. Troy and Eugene Franklin as platoon commanders and Rankin Smith as company sergeant major.  This was followed by a demonstration of squad drill and physical training under CSM Smith with Platoon Commander Franklin acting as demonstrator.  L. Armour, P. Donaldson and R. Colwell were platoon sergeants.

The second section of the program included playing of badminton on three courts while at the same time four, four-man rifle teams fired on the miniature range.  The winning team were Robert Tellenbach, John Harrington, Vincent Kelly and Paul Donaldson.  High individual honors went to Cadet L. Rogers with 98 out of a possible 100, closely followed by Cadet V.Sharkey with 97.

Officers of the corps are Major J.B. Carr and Lieuts. W.S. Brownrigg and L.R. Wilson.  The inspection was watched by a large number of spectators.
