CADET INSPECTION WEDNESDAY, JUNE 7

 

The Woodstock High School Army Cadet Corps will have its annual inspection on Wednesday June 7, at three o’clock on the Fisher school grounds.  Colonel C.M.G. Grier, director of Army Cadets for Canada will inspect the Corps and a good program is being planned.  In addition to the ceremonial drill there will be demonstrations of light machine gun handling, tommy gun drill, antigas drill, signaling, physical training, first aid, guard mounting, precision drill, etc.  The Bugle Band will lead a parade through town at the close of the inspection.

 

The girls’ platoon will also take part in the events of the day.

 

Preceding the Inspection a track meet will be held, including races, jumps, shot put, pole vault, etc.  The races will be held on Chapel street , starting at 1 o’clock .  The remainder of the sports program will be conducted on the Fisher grounds.  In the evening a game of soft ball will be played between two High School teams.

 

This is the big event in the Cadet year as it marks the end of their training.  It is hoped that the citizens of Woodstock will show their interest in the Cadets by attending in large numbers.

CADET CORPS INSPECTED BY COL. GRIER

 

CADET RANDOLPH BROWN PRESENTED WITH MEDAL

 

The Annual Inspection of the Woodstock High School Army Cadet Corps was held on the Fisher School grounds at 3:00 p.m. Wednesday.  A great number of parents and friends were gathered on the grounds to see the boys and girls go through their drill.  Col. Grier, Director of Cadet Services for Canada , took the salute and inspected the Corps.  With him at the saluting base were Major C.M.V. Spence, Capt. Boucher, Lieut. W.S. Brownrigg, Instructor of the Corps.

 

Following the inspection of the groups was the March Past in charge of Cadet Major John Winslow, the salute being taken by Col. Grier.  The following program was then followed:

 

Physical Training – leader Lois Lockhart; Platoon Drill, Lt. Murray Duclos; Squad Drill, Cpl. Buddy Stewart and Cpl. Robert Hoyt; Rifle Exercises, C.S.M. John McGuire; Demonstrations of the use of Reising Sub-Machine Gun, Gren Gun, L.Cpl. Donald Phillips; Anti-Gas Demonstration by a groups of six boys; Precision Drill, Major John Winslow; Guard Mounting, R.S.M. John McGuire, Orderly Officer Lt. Murray Duclos; First Aid, Donald Tapley and squad.

 

At the close of the program Cadet Randolph Brown was presented with the medal won in the Dominion of Canada Rifle Association Competition during the winter.  The presentation was made by Col. Grier who then called the group together for a little friendly chat.  He complimented the group on their fine appearance, showed them where they cold make improvements, and gave them some good advice to assist in the improvement of the Corps generally.  He congratulated them on the improvement they had made over last year’s showing.

 

The Corps then formed up and paraded through town, giving the salute at the War Memorial.  Col. Grier took the Salute at this point.

 

Many favourable comments were heard from the audience gathered for the occasion.  Everyone seemed to feel that the school had a Corps of which it should be justly proud.  Ad Cadet picnic some Friday afternoon soon, and Camp at Utopia August 23 will end the Corps activites for this Cadet year.

CADET AWARD ANNOUNCEMENTS MADE

 

Moncton High School Cadet Corps captured the Strathcona Trust Silver Shield awarded annually to the public school corps winning first place among the cadet corps in the Province in annual inspection.  The Moncton Corps won the award with an efficiency rating of 95 percent.

 

The Woodstock High School Cadet Corps had a rating of 65 percent and placed with Beaconsfield School , West Saint John , Plaster Rock, St. Patrick’s School, Saint John , Jacquet River School , St. Martins School, Stanley School and St. Leonard ’s School.
