WOODSTOCK CADET CORPS
The Woodstock Cadet Corps, under the leadership of Mr. Byron Carr, consists of a number of boys taken from the High School grades of the Fisher Memorial School. The Corps, clad in Khaki uniforms and led by two drummers, made a very fine appearance in the mammoth parade which was held in Woodstock on May 12, 1937, the Coronation Day of Their Majesties, King George VI and Queen Elizabeth.
In the parade the Cadets held a position directly behind the float of the True Blue Lodge and preceding the Living Flag. While marching to the school grounds where the ceremonies were held, the Cadets saluted the Soldiers’ Memorial Monument, which is in front of the Court House, by receiving the command “Eyes left,” from Mr. Carr. After the ceremonies were over, the Cadets were inspected by the Mayor and Town Councillors. The Cadets saluted the Monument again while returning from the school grounds and also saluted the Mayor and Town Councillors who were standing on the Post Office steps. The Cadets then proceeded down Main Street and turned on Connell Street where they were dismissed by Mr. Carr.
Those who marched with the Cadets from Grade 11 were: Basil Flemming, Clifton Gibson, David Smith, Dennis Connolly, Douglas True, Francis Hourihan, Gerald Montieth, Kenneth Barton, Morris Brown, Wesley Steeves, and Wilson Dickinson.
Those from Grade 10 were: Clarence Franklin, Curtis Boyd, Frederick Cowan, Grant Dunbar, Hartley Johnson, Lawrence Foster, Robert Dibblee, and Robert Webb, Drummer.
Those from Grade 9 were: Clarence Fishk, David Harvey, Gordon Wort, Jack McKinney, James Nicholson, Kirk Stairs, Llewlyn Brown, Ned McLean, Orlan Leech, Robert Lovely, Robert York, Raymond Smith, Urban Hughes, Walter Downey, William Stairs.
