Capt. Claus Breede

 

Claus Breede joined 246 Squadron RC(Air)CS – Toronto, in 1959 and attended his first summer camp at RCAF Station Clinton that same year. The following year he moved, with his parents, to St. John’s Newfoundland and was transferred to 510 Squadron where he reached the rank of WO I. He was appointed Wing Warrant Officer on completion of the Senior Leaders Course at Borden in 1962 and “aged out” in 1963. It was not until 1978 that Capt Breede resumed his interest in the Cadet Movement when he was asked to assist in the establishment of 310 RC(Air)CS in Port Elgin, Ontario. That Unit was formally established in September, 1979 and Capt Breede became its second CO in 1983, a position he served in until his move to Goderich, ON in 1986. In Goderich Capt Breede served with 532 RC(Air)CS as TrgO until his rebadging in 1990 with the PRes and the 4th Bn of The Royal Canadian Regiment. Mr. Breede served in a variety of positions with The RCR including Platoon Commander, Coy 2 i/c and Acting OC ‘T’ Coy. Upon release from the PRes in 1997 Capt Breede rejoined the CIC and served in the capacity of TrgO with 2923 RCACC, Huron Park where he was appointed CO, a position he held from 1999 to 2002. The following year, with the assistance of Mr. W. Higgins, Capt Breede established (3144) a new Army Cadet Corps in Clinton, Ontario and 18 months later, at the request of the Robert Land Academy Capt Breede transferred, on 01 MAY 05, as CO to 2968, a school cadet corps with over 140 cadets.

During his career with the CIL/CIC Capt Breede has served not only in a variety of positions at the LHQ level, but has also served as Zone Shooting Coordinator, instructed with the Regional Cadet Instructors School (Central) and has acted as OPI on numerous joint exercises. Capt Breede is a frequent guest speaker on issues pertaining to Canadian Military History and organizational behavior. 

In his civilian occupation Mr. Breede is a professional museologist having worked with the Royal Ontario Museum in Toronto and has served as Director with the Bruce County Museum in Southampton (ON) and the Huron County Museum in Goderich. Currently Mr. Breede is the Director/Curator of The Royal Canadian Regiment Museum in London, ON and the President of Canadian Cultural Resource Consultants Inc. A firm specializing in the development of development of organizational excellence among cultural institutions in Canada. Mr. Breede has two children, Alexandra – an aspiring actor in Toronto and a son, Capt. C.H. Breede, serving with the 2nd Bn, The Royal Canadian Regiment in Gagetown, NB.
