Corps de Cadets #2804 Cadet Corps

2008

The Corps had presented a Support Our Troops banner to Cdr Canuel in November 2007. On January 8th, 2008, the Corps received word that the banner had reached its destination......HMCS Charlottetown. CHARLOTTETOWN, was located in the Persian Gulf and part of Op Athena. (courtesy Robert Gill)

Throughout the last 2 training years, 2804 has been increasingly involved in Support Our Troops projects. Several soldiers, serving overseas have touched the Cadet Corps in different ways.

A cabinet was built to hold pictures of some of the soldiers, along with special souvenirs. The cabinet also hold different replica medals. It is still growing.......

The Corps received word, over the Christmas break, that one soldier that we had sent a card to, was killed in Afghanistan. A picture of WO Hani Massouh, along with a copy of the envelope, a replica Memorial Cross and poppy were placed in the cabinet. The Corps is unsure if he received it before his death

Lt(N) Kevin Cyr was very kid to us. The Corps had set him a t-shirt, which he and his section signed. He also sent some badges and dirt from different areas in Afghanistan.

The Cadet Corps held its Annual Brunch & Silent Auction on February 10th, 2008.

This year, it was held at the Casselman Arena. It is the Corps largest single fundraising event. This year's event raised over $6300.00.

The food began being served at 10am, though there was a hungry line up at 9:30am!

The wait for food (line up shown in the background) was approximately 20 minutes long and stretched around the room. No complaints.

Pte Tessier and an unknown parent monitor the Corps' kitshop.

One sponsor, Tapis Richard Ranger, donated an autographed Jean Beliveau Montreal Canadiens jersey. It was auctioned off and raised close to $600.

The hall was filled, with no room to sit, by 11am. There was seating for over 300 people.

Some of the many items up for auction.

Towards the end of the day, some cadets take a hard earned break. Over 50kg of bacon, 40kg of sausage, 30kg of ham and over 750 eggs were served!

The Cadet Corps' Brunch & Silent Auction has become a major community event and is the highlight of Casselman's Winter Carnival.
