ARMY CADET INSPECTION PLANNED FOR WEDNESDAY

 The annual inspection of Moose Jaw ’s School Cadet Corps, (Royal Canadian Army Cadets) is slated for the armouries, Wednesday. Col. W.J. Moogk, OBE, CD, commander of the Saskatchewan area, will be the inspecting officer. Capt. G.G. Vickers, area cadet training officer and LT. COL. H.D. ROSS, officer commanding the Saskatchewan Dragoons will accompany him. Following the ceremonial march past, the cadet will present demonstrations of various phases of training undergone during their time of enlistment. At the parade the following awards will be presented: 20th Saskatchewan Armed Regiment award, for the school whose cadets have shown the best attendance during the year; Saskatchewan Dragoons Proficiency awards for the senior and junior cadet having the best general proficiency record for the training season and the Strathcona Trust Bronze Medal for the best all-round shot.

ARMY CADET CORPS INSPECTED AWARDS PRESENTED WEDNESDAY

 

COL. MOOGK PRESENTS AWARD TO CPL O’BRIEN       CDT T. ROWLINSON, TROPHY AND COL MOOGK

 Tribute was paid to members of No. 1856 Moose Jaw Schools Cadet Corps (Royal Canadian Army Cadets) by Col. W.J. Moogk, OBE, and CD at the annual inspection at the Armouries Wednesday.  THE AREA COMMANDER FOR Saskatchewan , Col. Moogk said, “You have certainly shown pride in yourselves and in the corps.  “Since good citizens are a primary object of the cadet movement, you have certainly proved tonight that you are good citizens,” the colonel said.

Col. Moogk was accompanied bon the inspection by Capt. G.G. Vickers, cadet training officer of Saskatchewan area and by Lt. Col H.D. Ross commanding officer of the Saskatchewan Dragoons. 

 Together they took the general salute as members of the cadet corps marched past in close column, in column of route and advanced in review order.

 Awards Presented

 The spectators then watched awards being presented to a number of cadets for various phases of their training.  Col. Moogk presented proficiency awards to two cadets and a signalling certificate to one cadet.  

Corporal L.J. O’Brien received the senior proficiency award and Cadet Terrance Rowlinson received the junior proficiency award.  These wards are presented annually and are made available by the Saskatchewan Dragoons. 

 Cadet Rowlinson also received the signals certificate for proficiency in Morse code.  Corporal K.E. Adams received the attendance trophy on behalf of the Technical High School Cadets.  The award presented annually by the Saskatchewan Dragoons in made for the highest average attendance of cadets in any school.

 Survival Demo

Prince Arthur School had the second largest attendance and Central Collegiate came third. Col Ross made this presentation. The cadets then gave a demonstration on national survival. They showed the audience how a casualty is strapped securely onto a stretcher and how a casualty can be lowered from the roof of a building in case of emergency. Following the demonstration on survival, the cadets performed a demonstration on signalling. Here they showed how a line telephone is strung up and how communication is performed over these phones. Wireless communication was demonstrated followed by Morse code signalling.

WEDNESDAY INSPECTION FACES CITY ARMY CADETS

 The Moose Jaw Schools Army Cadet Corps No. 1856 will hold its annual inspection May 9 at 7:30 in the Moose Jaw Armoury, Lieut. D.S. Smale, Chief instructor announced in a press release today. The inspecting officer will be Lt. Col. H. D. Ross, officer commanding Moose Jaw Militia Garrison. He will be accompanied Lieut H.D. Whiston, Saskatchewan Area Cadet Training Officer. The inspection will consist of a march past in column, close column and advance in review order, to be followed by a demonstration in training. In command of the parade is Cadet-Captain Terry Rowlinson assisted by Troop Commanders Cadet-Lieut. Jerry Johnson and Cadet-Lieut. Dennis Peterson. Training this year was supervised by Officer of the Cadet Services of Canada Lieut. D.S. Smale, chief instructor; Captain A.E. Davis, assistant instructor; John Goodman civilian instructor; and S-Sgt. D.S. Hardisty Saskatchewan Area assistant instructor. Parents and friends of the cadets are urged to attend. The general public is welcome.

INSPECTION SLATED FOR ARMY CADETS

 The annual inspection of Moose Jaw schools cadet corps (Royal Canadian Army Cadets) will be held at the armoury on Wednesday. The Inspecting Officer will be Brigadier G. J. H. Wattsford, CD, Commander Saskatchewan area and the assessing officers will be Captain A. V. Stoppa, CD, area cadet officer and Captain N.  H.  Whiston, CD, cadet-training officer.

 Other members of the inspecting party will include a representative of the Moose Jaw School Board, the sponsoring body, and Captain D. S. Smale, chief instructor of the cadet corpse. All parents and friends of the cadets, as well as the general public are invited to the armoury as guests of the cadets for the inspection ceremonies.

MAJOR AWARDS PRESENTED AT ARMY CADET INSPECTION

 Top awards were presented at the annual inspection of the Moose Jaw School Cadet Corps (Royal Canadian Army Cadets) in the Armouries Wednesday.  Inspecting officer was Brigadier G.J. H. Wattsford, Commander of the Saskatchewan area. Assessing officers were Capt A.V. Stoppa, area cadet officer and Capt N. Whiston, cadet-training officer.  Capt. S.H.Gutheridge, liaison officer, was a member of the inspection party.

Program included inspection of cadets; ceremonial march past, demonstration of training and award presentation.  Cadet Sgt G.R. Carter won the Saskatchewan Dragoons Senior proficiency trophy and the master cadet award.  Cadet D.A. Bessette captured the Saskatchewan Dragoons junior proficiency trophy.

 Cadet Lieut. W.S. Gruben won the master cadet award.  Prince Arthur won the Saskatchewan Dragoons School Attendance Trophy.  St John ’s Ambulance first aid certificates went to D.F. Arnold, L.J. Arnold, T.L. Barth, G.A. Bessette, D.D. Brown, G.R. Carter, J. R. Cathcart, R.W. Erz, J.A. French, G.R.Fuhr, W.S. Gruben, and J.F.Hawkes. A.J. Johnson, L.R.Johnson, J.W. Kalinczuk, J.M. 18 SCHOOLS CADETS CHOSEN FOR COURSE

Eighteen Moose Jaw School Cadet Corps members have been chosen for military training courses for at Vernon Cadet Camp and Clear Lake Man. , Cadet Camp July 12 to Aug. 20. Course given are cadet leader instructor, cadet leader, cadet leader signaller, cadet driver mechanical transport. Chosen for training are Cadets W.S. Gruben, R.E. Kennedy, D.F. Meier, D.B. Valley , J.A. French, K.W. Hammer, J.F. Hawkes, R.H. Nakano, J.F. Miller, D.R. Smith, R.M. Nickason, S.K. Brown, M.S. Nicholson, D.D. Brown, G.A Bessette, G.R. Fuhr, W.C. Van Bustirk, and D.E. Waud.
