Capt R.B.E. Clark, MMM CD
Captain Roland Bernard Edward Clark was born in Chakari, Southern Rhodesia in 1929. He was educated in Salisbury and was a member of the Royal Rhodesian Rifles, Territorial. He enrolled in the Canadian Army in 1954. He underwent Basic and Recruit training at Currie Barracks, Calgary with the Lord Strathcona's Horse and served with the Regiment until January 1958 when he was posted to the Royal Canadian Armour Corps School in Borden as a tank gunnery instructor. He was promoted to the rank of sergeant in 1960 and served with The Fort Garry Horse in Germany from 1962 until 1965. Sgt. Clark was the Operations Sgt. for Recce Sqn. (C Sqn.), The Fort Garry Horse in Cyprus from October '67 until April '68. He returned
to Calgary from Cyprus as the regimental Signals Sergeant and was promoted Warrant Officer in 1969.
Warrant Officer Clark rebadged Lord Strathcona's Horse (Royal Canadians) in 1969 and took up two command positions during the period 1969-1971: Troop Leader of a Centurion Tank Troop and Troop Leader of a Reconnaissance Troop. In 1972 he served with the Regiment in Cyprus and on his return was promoted Master Warrant Officer and appointed Squadron Sergeant Major of B Squadron. Sergeant Major Clark served with the UNEF ME at Camp Shams in Cairo from February, 1974 to August, 1974. He was posted to the Armour School in Gagetown in October, 1974 as the Sergeant Major Instructor of D&M Squadron and Phase 4 Officer Cadets. He was promoted Chief Warrant Officer in August, 1976 and appointed CWO Armd in the Directorate of Land Plans, National Defence Headquarters,Ottawa.In July 1979 Chief Warrant Officer Clark was appointed Regimental Sergeant Major Lord Strathcona's Horse (Royal Canadians) in Calgary, Alberta. He has been appointed as Member of the Order of Military Merit in recognition of his exceptional service to the Canadian Forces.
In the summer of 1981 Chief Warrant Officer Clark was commissioned from the ranks to the rank of Captain and posted as Regular Support Staff Officer The British Columbia Regiment (Duke of Connaught's Own) Vancouver.
