Training conducted at the cadet corps between the period 01 September and 30 June of the following year. The aims of this training are to:

* Teach the star programme
* Participate in citizenship activities
* Participate in physical fitness/sports
* Conduct optional training as time, expertise and resources permit
* HAVE FUN!


Corps training if composed of:

* Mandatory subjects - Those subjects contained in the course which must be taught as per the applicable Course Training Plan

* Mandatory Support Activities - Activities that must be completed to support the mandatory training and shall include supplementary training, practical exercises and/or tests

* Optional Programmes - Those activities that may be conducted during the training year in order to enhance training and to take advantage of local expertise and resources.

Star Programme - A mandatory programme carried out at the cadet corps between the period 01 September and 30 June of the following year, which teaches and practices the minimum knowledge and skills necessary to achieve the training objectives of army cadets. This programme is divided into four levels signified by green, red, silver and gold stars. Each star signifies a level of mandatory training completed and a cadet will only attempt one star level in a given training year under normal circumstances. The training is completed in the above stated order.

Optional Training - Each corps can organize and offer optional activities that takes advantage of local resources. These activities are offered as a complement to the Star Programme. The Department of National Defense supports the following optional training activities for Army Cadets by providing the equipment and training aids, rations, transportation and field accommodation (winter/summer):

* Music
* Biathlon
* Smallbore competitive rifle shooting

Other optional activities are organized and funded by each corps. The Army Cadet League of Canada may provide funding for optional activities through their provincial bodies and local sponsors.
